The team at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson (MMC-D): Dickinson Hematology Oncology (previously Dickinson Hematology Oncology Clinic) provides care for patients in Dickinson County and the surrounding areas of the central Upper Peninsula. Dickinson is the only MOQC practice in the central time zone. Wisconsin-based Marshfield Clinic Health System acquired Dickinson County Healthcare System in February 2022. This new relationship will allow the team at Dickinson to participate in research through the Marshfield Clinic Cancer Care & Research Center and ensure that patients can access clinical trials close to home.
Dickinson has some exciting changes coming in the next few years. MMC-D will undergo an EHR transition in 2023 to Cerner, allowing a more seamless experience for our patients during care transitions. The team at MMC-D is currently in the design phase of building a state-of-the-art cancer center, which will include an 8,400 SF addition on the main hospital campus. Highlights of the new cancer center include:
- Private infusion rooms
- Consult and conference areas
- A patient library
- A private entrance for patients seeing oncology providers
This new space will open for patients in 2024.
The MMC-D Hematology Oncology team continues to be led by Gustavo Morel, MD and Michelle Morel, PA. Both have provided cancer services to the Dickinson community for over 20 years. The care team expanded in August 2022, adding Emily Essendrup, NP.
