Core values: Integrity, Compassion, Collaboration, and Empowerment
Purpose statement: We use our lived experiences to improve cancer care in Michigan.
After establishing its core values and purpose statement earlier this year, MOQC’s Patient and Caregiver Oncology Quality Council (POQC) is now turning its attention to defining its vision statement, a collective expression of what the council hopes to create for patients and caregivers across Michigan. Once complete, POQC plans to develop group agreements and revise its orientation process to reflect these shared values, statements, and commitments.
POQC’s workgroups continue to make progress on statewide initiatives. The Financial Navigation Workgroup has been hard at work on two partnership projects. For the first project, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), 36 financial navigators from across the state trained with Dan Sherman of the NaVectis Group. Together with the Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) and Gilead Sciences, the team also developed a project to investigate how Michigan practices assess non-medical needs. This work led to the development and presentation of two abstracts at national conferences.
Meanwhile, the Caregiver Navigation Workgroup is implementing a grant-funded initiative focused on helping practices in southeast Michigan better address the needs of caregivers through tailored training and ongoing support.
As POQC continues to evolve, its members remain deeply committed to amplifying patient and caregiver voices and shaping the future of cancer care across Michigan.
