Oncology Stewardship

The MOQC Oncology Stewardship project has entered the implementation phase. We have completed focus groups, developed a report of themes collected, and conducted member checking to verify results in the report. We submitted a manuscript outlining our work to date to The Oncologist. The focus group members voted on three potential pilot projects for implementation of stewardship principles, and it was determined that the first project will focus on biomarker testing for patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Biomarker testing is the first step in determining a treatment for this type of disease and currently it is not happening in a standard way, which makes this an ideal exploration project for implementation of stewardship.

As we move forward with this initiative, we are requesting your assistance in forming the implementation team. We are seeking recommendations for team members who are involved in the process of molecular diagnostics in thoracic oncology (ordering, intake, interpreting, etc.) within your practice space. In addition, if you think there are people at your institution who may be aware of barriers in this process (example: billing) they would also be welcome.

Please nominate yourself and/or colleagues by contacting Natalia Simon at nsimon@moqc.org.
