The Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC) is seeking a part-time Director to lead the POEM (Pharmacists Optimizing Oncology Care Excellence in Michigan) program and to shape and expand Oncology Stewardship initiatives across the state. MOQC is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-funded Collaborative Quality Initiative committed to improving the quality and value of cancer care. Guided by trust, integrity, collaboration, compassion, and a growth mindset, MOQC centers the voices of patients and caregivers in all our work.
This role involves setting the vision for pharmacy stewardship efforts, leading a statewide team, evaluating quality improvement initiatives, and collaborating with clinical leaders to expand equitable access to optimal oncology care. The Director will also represent MOQC at statewide and national forums and contribute to collaborative-wide planning and research. Applications are accepted until the position has filled.

MOQC Director of POEM and Stewardship
Job Summary
The Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC) is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-funded Collaborative Quality Initiative with the core values of trust, integrity, collaboration, compassion, and growth mindset. Our team uses data from oncology practices, including gyn oncology practices, across the state of Michigan to develop and inform quality improvement projects. Our purpose is to improve the quality of cancer care across the state so that patients receive the care they need regardless of where they live or who they are. MOQC centers the voice of patients and caregivers in all our work.
The successful candidate in this position will be jointly responsible in partnership with the Program Director for of setting the vision for all MOQC’s work related to “Pharmacists Optimizing Oncology Care Excellence in Michigan”, referred to as POEM, and for leading initiatives to expand anticancer therapy stewardship across Michigan. This includes leading the Coordinating Center team and practices through planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of data-informed initiatives.
This Director will independently liaise with the POEM sites, MICMT POEM team, related to that program and the MOQC team, clinical practice leadership and practice champions related to stewardship and assist with root cause analysis and problem-solving in practices and across the consortium. In collaboration with the coordinating center, the Director will respond to the needs communicated by practices. This role will take part in planning and facilitating MOQC’s collaborative-wide meetings twice per year. These meetings, and additional ad hoc connection visits to practices throughout the state, will require travel.
Responsibilities:
POEM/Stewardship Responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert for POEM program and anticancer therapy stewardship-related questions
- Set goals for the POEM team and evaluate pharmacists on the completion of those goals
- Continue to build the ROI model for pharmacist involvement in oncology practice sites via reports to POEM practices and BCBSM and publication of data on pharmacy practice and patient care outcomes of interest.
- Set goals for anticancer therapy stewardship and lead team in clinical focus areas
- Leverage POEM team in the implementation of oncology stewardship initiatives across MOQC
- Lead outcome evaluation of anticancer therapy stewardship programming
MOQC Program/Team Responsibilities
- Collaborate in setting agendas and identifying speakers for collaborative-wide meetings
- Facilitate the design and implementation of collaborative-wide quality improvement, evaluating treatments and improving the care of patients
- Work with clinical champions at participating practices and hospitals to identify and implement best practices.
- Represent MOQC at national and state-wide forums on quality and safety both through attendance and presentations
- Provide direction for MOQC publications in peer reviewed journals
- Contribute to the development of quality measures, targets, and goals
- Chair committees and task forces as needed
- Develop opportunities for collaboration with other CQIs
- Participate in meetings with sponsor and contribute to deliverables, including MOQC’s statement of work and budget planning
Requirements:
- PharmD, or equivalent degree
- Behaviors that align with the core values of MOQC, including trust, integrity, collaboration, compassion, and growth mindset
- At least 5 years of experience treating people with cancer
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated work experience related to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills, group leadership, and facilitation skills
- Proficient with all basic Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience and/or knowledge in oncology clinical outpatient care
- Experience with outpatient operations and ambulatory medical groups
- Experience with anticancer therapy stewardship
- Completion of PGY2 Oncology Specialty Residency
