PROMOnc: Patient-Reported Outcomes in Oncology

[/av_textblock]

[/av_one_full][av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=” admin_preview_bg=” av_uid=’av-34clm6′]

Description

MOQC is collaborating with the Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH) in an effort to develop and test patient-reported outcome (PRO) performance measures for oncology. Patients with breast, colon, or non-small cell lung cancer will be surveyed about their health-related quality of life, pain, and fatigue prior to and following chemotherapy treatment. Following testing, the measures will be submitted to the National Quality Forum (NQF) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for inclusion consideration.

Practice Benefits

  1.  Targets care interventions for physician and team with patient and caregiver
  2.  Increases survival compared with usual care when PROs are integrated into routine care of patients with metastatic cancer (Basch, 2017)
  3.  Meets outcome measure & performance improvement requirements for Medicare’s Merit Based Incentive Payment (MIPS) program
  4.  Provides trended practice and physician data to focus quality improvement and investment strategies on evidence-based programs to improve symptom management

Measures & Survey Instruments

MOQC is using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information Systems (PROMIS) global assessment tools.  The three areas of PROs where measures are being tested and developed are in the areas of:

These assessment tools allow for measuring symptoms, functioning, and healthcare-related QOL.

Surveys will be administered three times over the course of the patient’s treatment.
